Both ladies dived in to their personal and professional journey to success discussing how to transition from student to professional, the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, the corporate sector and the value in staying true to yourself.

Rachel Johnson capitalized on an opportunity to bridge the gap between the sports and fashion world and helped bring players such as Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire to the forefront of the fashion industry. NBA player in the front row at a fashion show sitting beside Anna Wintor?! Never heard of! Until....Rachel Johnson pushed the envelope and broke bearers to help sports players be seen as more than a baller, but a fashion sensation as well! Rachel, you rock!

Daisy Lewellyn has so much energy and it totally makes sense that she has been featured on Good Morning America, Style Nework, E and countless other tv networks. She is energetic, engaging and did I mention funny?! Daisy worked for the esteemed Glamour magazine and ESSENCE and is now a published author.

What happens when you try EXTREMELY hard and see minimal results? Story sound familiar?! Well, if so, here are 20 tips to help you go from stagnant to magnificent. Listen closely and DO NOT drown out the FAB advice with your pride or inability to take constructive criticism. Open your mind and be ready to receive!

20 FAB Tips to Add Momentum to Your Goals: (in NO particular order)

1. STOP doing the same thing and expecting different results
2. STOP wishing progress would come simply because "you speak it into existence"
3. Identify your goal(s) for the year and make a list of must-have resources
4. Put a mentor "wish list" together and start recruiting a mentor ASAP!
5. Secure at LEAST 5 seasoned professional allies that will turn you on to new ideas, advice and resources
6. STOP complaining about your situation and switch up your game plan
7. Do your research! Are you an expert in your field of interest? Where is your knowledge deficiency? Fix it!
8. Write down your last 10 mistakes and analyze each situation, then write a solution for each scenario as a way to learn rather than criticize
9. Refine your professional portfolio (resume, cover letter and work samples). If you don't have a portfolio. Get to it!
10. Pray for a sign, for guidance. Pray that God gives you the work ethic, wisdom and patience to achieve His desired goal for your life.
11. Acknowledge that you DO NOT know everything and start asking more thought-provoking questions. How many questions have you asked today?
12. START taking at least TWO new professionals out to lunch, for a drink or coffee per week --continuing to build relationships is essential to business growth!
13. Identify your WOW Factors and create strategies to positively exploit them (daily!)
14. Choose 3 professionals per month to thank and send them an "appreciation" card for supporting your professional endeavors
15. Attend at least 1-2 events per month relevant to your field of interest
16. Take at least 10 minutes of "me time" each day to sit in silence and meditate
17. Strengthen your skill set and knowledge by doing at least 2 productive extracurricular assignments each day, such as reading an article, having an intellectual conversation, joining a new organization or industry research
18. Make a daily to-do list and hold yourself accountable
19. Get your proper rest so that your brain can function properly
20. Do at least one thing each day that makes you smile

Oh and here is an extra tip for kicks . . .

STOP feeding into the hype that ANY action is PRODUCTIVE action. You can work tirelessly and endlessly and still get no where. Learn how to work smart(er), not aimlessly harder.

Tough love . . . you're FAB . . . you can handle it!

Interested in Business Development? Career Advancement? Entrepreneurship? If you are a college student and ready to gain hands-on experience, you should apply for our internship program!

The FAB Network Intern will:
Perform administrative tasks
Conduct research on the fashion, arts, beauty and entertainment industry and trends
Assist with media outreach and social media management
Contribute to business development initiatives (Clarification: research tasks, education support, proposal writing and review)
Support The FAB Network courses and after-school programs

Minimum Requirements:
Must be available at least 10 hours a week
Must be flexible and dedicated
Resident and student in NYC
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Graphic design skills required
All majors welcome

Note: This is an unpaid Internship and is conducted mostly remotely, and can be completed at the convenience of the intern (within a specific time frame). Communication with The FAB Network management and staff typically occurs via e-mail and scheduled phone calls. The ideal candidate is able to work with little assistance and most importantly have a knowledge and passion for college & career advancement, education and business development.

Happy Holidays!

Are you all bundled up sipping hot cocoa? Ice skating? Taking pics with Santa? Whatever you are doing this holiday season, I hope that you are relishing in the reason for the season and enjoying friends & family, as well as taking time to reflect on 2011 and strategically planning for 2012. What does that mean? It means that you should get your CAREER JOURNAL asap and begin to list all of your accomplishments for 2011 and goals for 2012. Always good to start the year off with a goal in mind, so that you can mentally prepare yourself for what you need to tackle in increments of 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and a full year. If you scaffold your goals into fragments, it will seem less stressful and more attainable. Be sure to write down your goals because a tangible list now holds you more accountable (plus, you won't forget). You are totally capable of making great strides this year, but it is up to you on how you proceed. Are you going to TALK about moving forward or are you going to ACT? That is the real question!

A new year is an opportunity to reinvent yourself and your vision. Take these last few weeks to really hone in on your vision.

Ask yourself these questions:

What are you most passionate about?

What excites you about your future?

If you could name your top 2 career passions, what would they be?

What is your most challenging obstacle right now?

'Tis the season to be jolly and merry and don't forget to be thankful for another day to chase your destiny!

Top 5 Things to Do When You Don't Know What to Do!

FAB has some great advice on what to do when you're feeling STUCK!

1. Don't move (literally and figuratively). Be still with your actions and thoughts and let all of your feelings and ideas marinate before making any drastic decisions. You want to make sure that your final decision is one that is built on sound judgment having considered all possibilities rather than emotion. It's okay to carve out time to simply think and consider all angles. In fact, FAB encourages you to pause asap!

2. Write down everything: thoughts, goals, feelings, fears and potential plan of action. Once you have allowed your thoughts to marinate, grab a pen and write down EVERYTHING. Documentation allows you to visually see all factors to be considered when creating a strategy in an organized way. Also, developing a list helps to hold you accountable.

3. Talk to the RIGHT people. Talking and getting advice is an important aspect when making a change, however it is critical that you are surrounded by people that you trust and understand and share your vision. Your close network should challenge you to succeed beyond mediocrity and push you on all levels of your development.

4. Create a tangible strategy. Once you have decided what you want to do do/accomplish, it is important that you create a blue print and timeline. List your goals with an action item to do list and time table so that you are focused on achievement and time management. Then get set, GO!

5. Identify effective stress relievers. Implementing change in our lives can be a very stressful task, therefore it is highly recommended to identify strategies that help you to relieve stress, such as writing, exercising or reading. It's okay to acknowledge that you are stressed; however what is more important is how you handle the stress. Do you cope or cave?!

Quick Formula to Effective Change:

Stop. Write. Talk. Strategize. Release.

Your imperfect reality can be the beginning of your perfect thoughts. If you are passionate, your desires will come. If you are diligent, your reward will follow. I have been often tricked into second guessing my thoughts and beliefs and the seed of insecurity creeps in until I realize that HE has already promised us the desires of our hearts and it is by our faith that we are able to see His word come to life. Not an easy assessment to make when you are bogged down with the details. I encourage you to celebrate the joys of today and not worry so much about the unknown. Trust me, I am taking my own advice!

Senior level ESSENCE professionals shared their expertise and knowledge on the fashion, beauty, entertainment and digital arena - all very important sectors that contribute to the continued success of ESSENCE. The discussion was intimate and encouraged dialogue, thought-provoking questions and of course inspiring advice.

Education is the cornerstone of The FAB Network and last night's event proved just how essential learning is to the development of our goals. I truly believe that if an individual is packaged with information and confidence, they are equipped to reach their destiny. All other factors are secondary.

I wanted to write just because . . .

I haven't had a chance to write in awhile and instead of writing in my private journal, I decided to think out loud and talk to you! We are now in the 4th quarter of 2011 and this year has truly flown by and I don't even know where to begin with all of the things that have taken place in my life this year. My personal and professional life have both been a rollercoaster filled with ups and downs - mostly ups - and for that I am grateful. This year has actually far exceeded my expectations. Funny how God has bigger blessings for our lives than our greatest prayer. We pray for a Honda. He has a Benz waiting instead. The key is keeping the faith and remembering to put Him first above our own insecurities and doubts. That's my biggest goal and desire is to keep Him first (despite all odds). Trust me, I know how hard this can be as a person who likes to control and plan my life - sometimes we have to let go and walk in the dark knowing that we will get there, somehow, someway. I hope you end this year with a bang knowing that you tried your best, laughed at your downfalls, cheered at your successes and smiled at all the blessings to come!

Here's cheers to ending the year living out our dreams . . . one footstep, tear, prayer, day at a time!

DETAILS:
This is a short-term intern opportunity. We are looking for interns (preferably fashion, marketing, tourism majors) to assist an international recording artist while on her International tour overseas.

**Production experience is a plus, but not required**

Interns will:
-Run errands
-Pick up miscellaneous items from the store, if needed
-Help in washing wardrobe before the performance
-Help with collecting, sorting and packing up wardrobe as well
-Help in gathering VIP fans at the concert the day of the event
-Assist with setting up dressing room for artist before her arrival
-During the performance, you will also help distribute wardrobe changes to dancers and the artist
-Help setting up the stage w/artist's requests (cold water, throat spray, tea, towels) & removing items from the stage after the performance

Requirements:
-You will be needed from morning-afternoon until after the performance, so you should be free all day**
-Must have a car/ reliable transportation
-You must wear all black and flat shoes

-Responsible

-Trustworthy

Notes:
-You will need to sign a confidentiality agreement**
-If we notice inappropriate behavior, you will be asked to leave immediately.
-There will be no communication with the artist.

Compensation:

I had the priviledge of being interviewed by the esteemed Kim Kane of Power 105.1, the premier R&B/Hip Hop radio station in NYC. We discussed important topics concerning education, community, professional development, trials of being an entrepreneur and the true importance of not only working hard to become successful, but the significance of looking back to help others along the way. Now more than ever, it is critical that we give our youth positive role models to aspire to and the resources necessary to help them reach their fullest potential. Education budgets may not always reflect the importance of supporting "arts" in schools or completely understand how influential after-school programs are in providing students with structure and support, therefore it is our duty as civic leaders to go beyond voicing our opinions and actively take charge. I challenge you to volunteer, become a mentor, tutor, make a donation, help a friend . . . every little bit counts!

Kim Kane made it very clear that it is her priority to use her platform to highlight positivity, specifically within the minority community! I can not thank her enough for her efforts. I hope that you embraced the early mornings and late nights with open arms and felt grateful that you had a mission each day to accomplish. My thoughts on the OPRAH finale . . .

On Wednesday, May 25th, The Oprah Show ended. As in the FINALE show! How could this happen? In my mind, watching Oprah is like watching The News. You never consider that the talk show could end or that you'd never be able to watch The Oprah Show at 4 o'clock again. During the finale, she talked to us, her viewers, for the entire show. In her own words, it was "her love letter" to us. No gimmicks. No interviews. No surprises. No gifts. Just Oprah . . . in her purest form, talking! The gems of wisdom that she shared was magical. It rang loud and clear in my ear, in my heart, in mind. I guess she seems to have that effect on the entire world it seems. Literally. The thing I love most about Oprah, besides her generosity, work ethic and wisdom, is that she lives a conscious life. What do I mean by this? Oprah is very aware of who she is and her purpose and everything she does is aligned with that purpose. Of course her success was an evolution, but at the core of who she is, her goal and mission has never wavered. She doesn't take credit for her smarts, success, wit or charm, she is fully aware that she is merely an instrument for the work that God has put her on this earth to do. When you have that type of clarity in your heart and mind, your mission in life speaks to you more directly. Oprah calls your life's calling a "whisper". She is convinced that your life's mission whispers in your ear, something like a slight nudge. If you don't listen, it gets louder and louder and louder, finally hitting you in the head like a "ton of bricks". Your life's mission is not always aligned with your profession and you won't always get paid for it. The difference you make in the world could be the fact that you're a great listener in your circle of friends or that you have a giving heart. Her entire message was so poinant. In all, I walked away with a stronger sense of self and even more excited about being God's instrument. I ask that He provide us with the courage to live out His plan for our lives. That He grant us patience and perseverance during our times of struggle. And that He bless us with the knowledge necessary to reach our fullest potential. Thank you Oprah, for once again, helping us to recognize the greatness in ourselves. You are truly one-of-a-kind!

Candace Bushnell is the critically acclaimed, international best-selling author of Sex and the City, The Carrie Diaries, One Fifth Avenue, Lipstick Jungle, Trading Up, Four Blondes and the upcoming Summer and the City (A Carrie Diaries Book, due in April 2011)--the coming-of-age story of one her most famous creations--Carrie Bradshaw. Sex and the City, published in 1996, was the basis for the HBO hit series and two subsequent blockbuster movies. Lipstick Jungle became a popular television series on NBC.

Bushnell grew up in Glastonbury, Ct, and moved to New York City at age 19. She attended Rice University and New York University, and began her professional career at 19 when she wrote a children's book for Simon & Schuster. Throughout her twenties, Bushnell developed her trademark style as a freelancer, writing darkly humorous pieces about women, relationships and dating for Mademoiselle, Self Magazine, and Esquire. In 1990, she wrote a column that would become a precursor for Sex and the City, called The Human Cartoon, a fictional serial published in Hamptons Magazine.

She began writing for the New York Observer in 1993; in November of 1994 she created the column Sex and the City, which ran in the New York Observer for two years. The column was bought as a book in 1995, and sold to HBO as a series in 1996. Bushnell hosted a radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio, called Sex, Success, and Sensibility, which aired from October 2006 to October 2008. She wrote and created a web series, The Broadroom, starring Jennie Garth, which launched in September 2009. In April 2010 she released The Carrie Diaries, the prequel to Sex and the City. The second book in this series is called Summer and the City and will be in bookstores in April 2011. She is currently at work on The Two Mrs. Stones, which will be in bookstores in April 2012.

Through her books and television series, Bushnell's work has influenced and defined two generations of women. She is the winner of the 2006 Matrix Award for books (other winners include Joan Didion and Amy Tan), and a recipient of the Albert Einstein Spirit of Achievement Award. In 2002, she married NYC Ballet Principal Dancer Charles Askegard. She currently resides in Manhattan.

I personally want to thank The Diva Lounge for honoring women in such a positive light and continuing to provide a platform that connects women in business, as well as highlights premium lifestyle brands.

Swizz Beatz helped to raise over $100K!!!!!!!!!!

Grammy Award Winning Artist & Producer Swizz Beatz partnered with Bronx Charter School for the Arts for a successful night of fundraising and live performances by Estelle and Swizz Beatz himself. There were tons of notables and celebrities in attendance, including actress Tika Sumpter (Gossip Girl, The Game), Ali (A Tribe Called Quest), recording artist Shontelle, Pilar Sanders and many others.

The event was not your typical fundraising initiative . . . it was so much more! The event featured a live auction highlighting students' art work. Swizz Beatz brought some of his own personal memorabilia from his celebrity friends, including autographed CD set from Beyonce, a signed entire collection of Jay-Z CDs + book autographed and VIP tickets to an Alicia Keys sold out concert + backstage passes. The icing on the cake was the performance by Grammy Award Winning, International Recording Artist Estelle. She did a fantastic job. Swizz Beatz surprised the audience by performing for almost an hour of his oldies but goodies hits and new songs set to release later this year. The crowd was screaming and dancing and the excitement to give even more definitely filled the room. Swizz Beatz made it clear that all funds raised through the fundraiser would be used to build a computer center, as well as help to create an after-school program for the students attending Bronx Charter School.

I was so inspired by the event's mission and Swizz Beatz's dedication to supporting kids and their desire to pursue their creative interests. Often times, many students who are talented, young artists don't get the support they need because schools don't have the resources to engage the students. This event was dedicated to proving that theory wrong!

The Makeup Show NYC "brings the makeup artistry together to create a community that meets the needs of every artist at all levels of their career." This year education and networking were the focal points for the show, and the goal was indeed met! 2011 Beauty Awards Finalists Announced

New York, NY – April 12, 2011 – Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) has announced the Finalists for the 2011 CEW Beauty Awards, the industry’s highest honor. Now in its 17^th year, the CEW Beauty Awards celebrate the most innovative products of the year. The Finalists were chosen from more than 600 products from nearly 350 top brands.

The CEW Beauty Awards are the only awards program where the Finalists are chosen exclusively by beauty insiders. The roster of Finalists, voted on by more than 4,000 professionals in the field, has become beauty consumers’ most coveted shopping list. “Due to the vast amount of beauty products on the market, it’s difficult for consumers to determine which products they need. Each year, CEW members select the best products from over 600 submissions.,” says Carlotta Jacobson, President of CEW.

The CEW Board of Governors will now vote on the 139 Finalists to determine the winners across 26 categories. ESSENCE magazine hosted a beauty event on Thursday, April 14th to educate retailers, editors and industry professionals on how to market, sell and cater to African American women. ESSENCE conducted an in-depth research consumer marketing study to show "the mindset of the passionate African American beauty consumer" and enlisted top beauty experts to discuss individual and industry concerns, thoughts and trends. Panelists included: Mikki Taylor (ESSENCE Editor-at-Large), Cynde Watson (Makeup Artist & Beauty Expert), Elena L. Jones, M.D. (Dermatologist), Eric Bland (Celebrity Hairstylist) and Susan Akkad (Senior Vice President, Corporate Diversity Marketing, Estee Lauder Companies, Inc).

According to ESSENCE research, there are 4 main Archetypes when dissecting the AA woman beauty consumer:
Queen Bea -- supremely confident, knowledgeable
Sheree De La Sol -- experimental, likes prestige and innovative brands and wants to conquer aging
Amber B. Free -- independent spirit, brand loyal, conscious, cautious and practical
Jane Jones -- the minimalist, time sensitive and likes the natural look
