The Women in Media event was a candid discussion held at LIM College focusing on all things related to careers in media. We explored various career paths in media, resume and interviewing tips from an HR perspective, challenges in the workplace, the rising popularity of digital careers, skills needed to succeed in the business and media professional resources.

Calling all emerging fashion designers! The CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} program is now open for applications for 2014-2016. The CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} is a business development program that helps cultivate emerging fashion designers in New York City by providing low-cost studio space, business mentoring, monthly educational workshops, vast networking opportunities, and more.

Oscar de la Renta Chats with Fern Mallis

De la Renta shot to fame in the 1960s as one of the designers who dressed Jacqueline Kennedy.

Since then, Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, Beyoncé, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sandra Bullock, Penelope Cruz and countless other noteworthy women have made a splash wearing his opulent, tasteful designs. He has won numerous Coty and Council of Fashion Designers of America awards, including the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990.

Moderator Fern Mallis, former Senior VP of IMG Fashion and Executive Director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, created, centralized and organized NY Fashion Week and led other fashion weeks and events around the world as IMG's global "Fashion Ambassador."  She hosts Fashion Insiders with Fern Mallis on Sirius XM Celebrity talk radio station STARS 107 and is the creator of the new FERN FINDS: globally-inspired line of jewelry. She launched Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis at 92nd Street Y in 2011 and during her first season interviewed Norma Kamali, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford and Michael Kors.

With punk as the focus of the Met's annual Costume Institute installation,PUNK: Chaos to Couture examines the growth of punk from its 1970s origins to its influence in modern fashion. The exhibition, which features designers such as Christopher Kane, Rei Kawakubo, Karl Lagerfeld, Helmut Lang, Gianni Versace and Vivienne Westwood, includes nearly 100 designs for men and women ranging from original punk garments to recent designs that use punk elements: paillettes replaced by safety pins and feathers by razor blades. On April 25th, Jones Magazine hosted a private dinner for fashion and beauty professionals celebrating their "Best in Beauty" edition. A special thanks to Colgate Optic White for being the gracious sponsor and treating all guests to a delicious dinner at the super fab NYC restaurant, DUO. Fashionistas, beauty mavens, reality tv stars and entertainment pros mixed and mingled for hours - what a FAB evening indeed.

What is the NYWIC Matrix Awards? It is an event "honoring extraordinary achievements of outstanding women in the communications industry". As a member of NYWIC and committee member for High School Outreach, I was honored and thrilled to attend such an inspirational event filled with women who admittedly took leaps of faith to follow their passion and as a result, have been tremendously rewarded for their efforts. The Matrix Awards is essentially the "Grammy's" of the communications field, being held at the fabulous Waldorf=Astoria. Comedian and Fashionista Joan Rivers served as Emcee.
