The Makeup Show NYC "brings the makeup artistry together to create a community that meets the needs of every artist at all levels of their career." This year education and networking were the focal points for the show, and the goal was indeed met! FAB was on the scene to attend exclusive seminars, capture pictures and experience to-die-for discounts! From the legendary Makeup Artist Reggie Wells to the Creative Founder of Makeup Forever Dany Sanz, The Makeup Show brought together the best of the best and gave us front row seats to learn! learn! learn! Visitors get a chance to meet artists in their studios working in photography, drawing, printmaking, mixed-media, video, ceramics, glass, installation, paintings, and sculpture.

Adrian Viajero, one of the featured artists will be exhibiting his latest installation Caja De La Memoria Viva II: Constancia Colon Clemente. In collaboration with Brooklyn’s own Michael 1Soul Cordero, there will also be a beautiful video installation.

2011 Beauty Awards Finalists Announced

New York, NY – April 12, 2011 – Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) has announced the Finalists for the 2011 CEW Beauty Awards, the industry’s highest honor. Now in its 17^th year, the CEW Beauty Awards celebrate the most innovative products of the year. The Finalists were chosen from more than 600 products from nearly 350 top brands.

The CEW Beauty Awards are the only awards program where the Finalists are chosen exclusively by beauty insiders. The roster of Finalists, voted on by more than 4,000 professionals in the field, has become beauty consumers’ most coveted shopping list. “Due to the vast amount of beauty products on the market, it’s difficult for consumers to determine which products they need. Each year, CEW members select the best products from over 600 submissions.,” says Carlotta Jacobson, President of CEW.

The CEW Board of Governors will now vote on the 139 Finalists to determine the winners across 26 categories. The winners will be announced at the CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon on Friday, May 20^th, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. Comedian and Actor Mario Cantone will emcee the event again this year.

This also marks the first year for the CEW Eco Beauty Award. Sponsored by Givaudan, the new Award is a response to the growing importance to consumers of products’ environmental impact on the planet. Ten finalists, from more than 40 entrants, have been vetted by the global organization, The Natural Step. ESSENCE magazine hosted a beauty event on Thursday, April 14th to educate retailers, editors and industry professionals on how to market, sell and cater to African American women. ESSENCE conducted an in-depth research consumer marketing study to show "the mindset of the passionate African American beauty consumer" and enlisted top beauty experts to discuss individual and industry concerns, thoughts and trends. Panelists included: Mikki Taylor (ESSENCE Editor-at-Large), Cynde Watson (Makeup Artist & Beauty Expert), Elena L. Jones, M.D. (Dermatologist), Eric Bland (Celebrity Hairstylist) and Susan Akkad (Senior Vice President, Corporate Diversity Marketing, Estee Lauder Companies, Inc).

According to ESSENCE research, there are 4 main Archetypes when dissecting the AA woman beauty consumer:
Queen Bea -- supremely confident, knowledgeable
Sheree De La Sol -- experimental, likes prestige and innovative brands and wants to conquer aging
Amber B. Free -- independent spirit, brand loyal, conscious, cautious and practical
Jane Jones -- the minimalist, time sensitive and likes the natural look
