Find it in yourself.

Find it in yourself to relax, relate, release. Find it. Find it in yourself to identify what you want, even when your own thoughts confuse you more. Find a place to escape to when you need to zone out. Find it. Find that place. Find a friend. Find love. Find peace. Find answers. Find what you want. Find an eagerness that inspires you to push forward. Find something in you that's untouchable to call your own. Find your spirit. Find you inner voice. Find it. Find your "thing". Find your passion. Find your circle. Find your place in this world. Find your mission. Find it. Whatever you do and wherever you go, find it in yourself.

If You Were Never Given Another Thing, Could You Be Grateful?

My friend asked me a very thought-provoking question that struck a cord with me at the time and has since continued to permeate in my thoughts. A very casual lunch that started off with whimsical updates turned into a deeper discussion of careers, love and life, which led to the very stimulating question of "If God never gave you another thing, could you be grateful?" and you know me . . . I had to answer the question with an essay type answer and her response was, "it's a yes or no answer" and I said "yes, but" and the "but" part of my answer was not sufficient for her. She really challenged me to answer "yes" or "no", which perplexed me even more and started tugging at me for the course of the next week. Why, you may ask? Well for one, I consider my self to be a grateful person and conscious of my blessings. However, I just can't escape the "but" part of my answer, because I'm just not done growing, achieving, attaining (at least in my eyes anyway).

I still have lots of goals to accomplish and new heights to reach. I have a vision for my life and I haven't fully reached that vision yet so for me, it's hard to say "YES" to a question that seems to stunt my future. My goal is to get to a point where I can say "YES" with confidence and conviction and know that I am wholeheartedly content with everything I've already been blessed with and if I was never given another thing, my heart could sing with peace and gratefulness. Since our lunch, my thoughts and prayers have been a bit more open-ended, thinking more about contentment rather than always praying for the next thing that I desire. Oh, my friend also wanted to make it clear that her question was not to advocate for stagnation, but instead challenge me to get to a place in life where gratefulness outweighs any prayer or requests that I may have. If I was never given another thing, could I be grateful? I'll confess that my answer is still a bit shaky and I am striving for that strong "YES". I am confident that I will get there (my hope is sooner than later). So, now, I am passing along my challenge to you. If you were never given another thing, could you be grateful?

P.S. Don't worry about saying a confident "YES" out loud, because your verbal answer is not what matters. It's what your heart says that really counts.

What's Your Biggest Fear?

A new year is a great time to identify your fears and more importantly reflect on what you can do to tackle those nagging things that you're afraid of.

Here's 5 things you can do to tackle your boogy man thoughts! No fear, FAB is here!

  1. Free write all of your thoughts down (if you're worried about someone seeing your thoguhts, tear them up). The goal is to dump out all of your fears onto paper! Suggestion: Write in your journal!
  2. Call on 1-3 friends that you trust and try verbalizing your fears. Ask them to listen only, without providing advice or suggested solutions.
  3. Find a place where you can think in solitude and peace. Create a zen place where you are alone with your thoughts.
  4. Try facing your fear in the eye and tackling it head on! Regardless of what happens, be proud of yourself for stepping outside of your comfort zone to move forward.
  5. Document your actions and results of you tackling your fears so that you can get more comfortable with facing rather than running away from areas of your life that you must confront.

Are you in denial?

Our destiny is staring us right in the face and many times, we see it. We know what we're supposed to do but we ignore it. We fight it. We act like we don't see the vision and continue leading our lives like we are oblivious to the signs. Yeah, how's that working out? Well, I mean, I have seen tons of people leading successful and happy lives without listening to the signs but you know what?! [And I am just now getting a bit more clarity on this thought.] The difference is that some are called to lead and others are called to listen. If you are aware of your position and the circumstances surrounding your calling, you are called to lead. And you will not move forward or progress until you fulfill that calling. It stalks you. It whispers in your ear. It will follow you as you enter relationships, jobs, conversations, new situations . . . it will start to drown out your thoughts until you finally surrender. Those who are called to listen. Must do just that, listen. And if you don't, you will continue to face the same adversities disguised in various forms until you are willing to submit your own thoughts and feelings and listen to the signs you are given. You can't escape the roll you were called to play. Leader or listener . . . either way, at the end of the day, you must acknowledge your calling. And the kicker is that, no one can help you. You'll find that no one will truly understand the complexity of your thoughts, your struggles, your gifts, your heart but YOU. And when you get to the end of the rope and you're finally ready to submit, peace and clarity are the faithful friends waiting for you (for us). The real question is, "are you tired of running and ready to face your calling?"

Sometimes submitting is the strongest thing you'll ever do. Try it. Stop running, start submitting. See what happens . . . the power of the unknown is probably better than what we can see. I'll admit, I'm ready to find out. Are you?
