What type of email do you send if you DON'T get the job?

You get a phone call/email saying that they decided on another candidate, blah blah . . . what should you say???

There are 2 scenarios: You would like to keep in contact with this company because you want to be considered for other positions OR you really don't care and kinda didn't want this job anyway. See below for both types of responses.

Type #1: You want to keep in touch and be considered for other positions.

Hello Ms. __________________,

Thank you for informing me of the company's decision. I appreciate you considering me for the (list exact title) position. As I mentioned in my interview, I am very interested in working for (list name of company) and would like to keep in contact and made aware of other opportunities that better suit my level of experience and skill set.

Thank you again and I look forward to being in touch should other opportunities become available.

Sincerely,

(first and last name)
(include a signature with a phone number)

Type #2: You don't really care to keep in touch and are not interested working at this particular company anyway.

Hello Ms. _________________,

Thank you for informing me of the company's decision. Although this opportunity did not work out, I am very grateful for your time and consideration.

Thank you again!

Sincerely,

(first and last name)
(include signature with phone number)

*Note: These are basic email thank you templates and should be personalized based on conversations between you and the interviewer. It is always better to thank the interviewer for specifics (i.e. advice, contacts, referrals, etc.). However, if the conversation was strictly business, then send a very nice general email as noted above.

"I wanna follow up, but how and when?"

I get these questions alot ---> "When should I follow up? AND "How should I follow up?"

There are a few things to note when trying to figure out when is it appropriate to follow up with someone. It is very important to avoid being annoying, pushy or too forward. Instead, you want to be viewed as professional, diligent and proactive.

Tips to Note:

- Mondays and Fridays are never good days to follow up ---> Mondays people are typically overloaded with emails/calls and Fridays people are thinking about the weekend and often zone out

- Don't call/email people during lunch hour ----> you're sure to get the VM or no response, generally between the hours of noon to 1:30pm

- If you leave a message, it is often a good idea to send a quick email reittering your VM (including your name, brief reason for calling and phone number) ---> this way you can ensure they received your message and have the correct information to return your call

- Whether in an email or phone call, ALWAYS state the following: name, why you're calling/emailing, specific information mentioned in previous conversations (i.e. job opportunities, lunch dates, promised follow ups, etc.)

- If the person says they will follow up with you and you hear NOTHING, give the person a week before you follow up ---> remind them of the previous conversation and why you are following up (always mention previous promises, so they will give you credit for being diligent and professional, this will also permit the conversation to be more focused)

- If you email someone and they DON'T respond, give the person about a week and send them another email with the previous email underneath, so the person can see the original email

- Once you have emailed twice and left one VM ---> pause and give the person time to respond. Unfortunately, if you STILL hear NOTHING, it may just be time to move on . . . (or it could be the person is just a slacker and will eventually respond) ---> either way, always remain positive if they ever do contact you!

- If you have a scheduled lunch/dinner date with someone, it is YOUR responsibility to remind them (especially if they are more senior than you)

- Never send a condescending email or show your frustrations, even if you are annoyed at the person's lack of professionalism or consistency

- Always be positive and respectful of people's time ---> it is ALWAYS about them and never about you!

- Always volunteer to meet them at a location closest to them ---> schedule every date at a time and place most convenient for THEM!

- Always send a recap email if there were specific details discussed that will require a follow
up ---> always good to send a "per our conversation" email to ensure that all details are clear and correct

Hope these tips help ya! Stay FAB in your pursuits to hunt these professionals down to get the answer you want! Good luck!

Thurgood Marshall: 2009 Front Row Fashion Show

FAB on the Scene - October 15, 2009 - New York

The FAB Network attends the . . .

Thurgood Marshall College Fund
presents
EMERGING AND ESTABLISHED DESIGNERS OF COLOR featured at FRONT ROW

Hosted by
Sherri Shepherd

Who's Who in Education:
Thurgood Marshall was an outgoing and strong-willed young man who was tenacious and persuasive and quickly became the first African-American associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Marshall's work began as a lawyer, working hard toward progressive education and equal pay for educators. Thurgood Marshall's steadfast actions quickly gained momentum as he worked toward setting precedent in court cases, rather than accepting the norm.

The Thurgood Marshall Fund (TMCF) is a direct link to Marshall's belief in the power of education.

TMCF celebrates 22 years of investing in the power of knowledge by supporting the 47-member public Historically Black Colleges and Universitities (HBCUs) and 6 law schools in 22 states, with a population of well over 235,000 students. TMCF has awarded more than $100 million in leadership development, programmatic and building support, and scholarships to students attending member schools.

On Saturday, October 24, 2009 presented its 4th Annual Fashion Show at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. The fashion show celebrates the "spirit of innovation" in fashion with a showcase from established and emerging African and Latino American fashion designers at Front Row.

The hostess for the evening was Sherri Shepherd, Co-Host of The View and star of her own sitcom on Lifetime Television, titled "Sherri". She definitely brought energy and laughter to the event.

Featured designers include: Byron Lars, Russull Simmons Argyle Culture, Kai Milla Designs, Angela Dean for DeanZign, a special new ethnic line from Wal-Mart, Nico & Adrian, Annie S Intimates, Amsale, Francis Hendy Montgomery and innovative emerging designers and Magnami Style & Company.

Front Row paid tribute to trailblazers in the fashion industry with its Fashion Icon Award, saluting individuals who have influenced style and fashion and embody the spirit of leadership and commitment to their craft. The 2009 honorees include: Supermodel Naomi Campbell, international make-up Artist Sam Fine, and Emmy award winning hairstylist Andre Walker, and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) President, Dr. Joyce Brown. The 2009 Avante Garde Award was presented posthumously to the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson.

Sponsored by: Mercedes Benz and Moet & Chandon
