Who's Who in Education:
Thurgood Marshall was an outgoing and strong-willed young man who was tenacious and persuasive and quickly became the first African-American associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Marshall's work began as a lawyer, working hard toward progressive education and equal pay for educators. Thurgood Marshall's steadfast actions quickly gained momentum as he worked toward setting precedent in court cases, rather than accepting the norm.
The Thurgood Marshall Fund (TMCF) is a direct link to Marshall's belief in the power of education.
TMCF celebrates 22 years of investing in the power of knowledge by supporting the 47-member public Historically Black Colleges and Universitities (HBCUs) and 6 law schools in 22 states, with a population of well over 235,000 students. TMCF has awarded more than $100 million in leadership development, programmatic and building support, and scholarships to students attending member schools.
On Saturday, October 24, 2009 presented its 4th Annual Fashion Show at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. The fashion show celebrates the "spirit of innovation" in fashion with a showcase from established and emerging African and Latino American fashion designers at Front Row.
The hostess for the evening was Sherri Shepherd, Co-Host of The View and star of her own sitcom on Lifetime Television, titled "Sherri". She definitely brought energy and laughter to the event.
Featured designers include: Byron Lars, Russull Simmons Argyle Culture, Kai Milla Designs, Angela Dean for DeanZign, a special new ethnic line from Wal-Mart, Nico & Adrian, Annie S Intimates, Amsale, Francis Hendy Montgomery and innovative emerging designers and Magnami Style & Company.
Front Row paid tribute to trailblazers in the fashion industry with its Fashion Icon Award, saluting individuals who have influenced style and fashion and embody the spirit of leadership and commitment to their craft. The 2009 honorees include: Supermodel Naomi Campbell, international make-up Artist Sam Fine, and Emmy award winning hairstylist Andre Walker, and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) President, Dr. Joyce Brown. The 2009 Avante Garde Award was presented posthumously to the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson.
Sponsored by: Mercedes Benz and Moet & Chandon
