CFDA presents Fashion Incubator
Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)
Calling all emerging fashion designers! The CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} program is now open for applications for 2014-2016. The CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} is a business development program that helps cultivate emerging fashion designers in New York City by providing low-cost studio space, business mentoring, monthly educational workshops, vast networking opportunities, and more.

Oscar de la Renta Chats with Fern Mallis
De la Renta shot to fame in the 1960s as one of the designers who dressed Jacqueline Kennedy.
Since then, Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, Beyoncé, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sandra Bullock, Penelope Cruz and countless other noteworthy women have made a splash wearing his opulent, tasteful designs. He has won numerous Coty and Council of Fashion Designers of America awards, including the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990.
Moderator Fern Mallis, former Senior VP of IMG Fashion and Executive Director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, created, centralized and organized NY Fashion Week and led other fashion weeks and events around the world as IMG's global "Fashion Ambassador." She hosts Fashion Insiders with Fern Mallis on Sirius XM Celebrity talk radio station STARS 107 and is the creator of the new FERN FINDS: globally-inspired line of jewelry. She launched Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis at 92nd Street Y in 2011 and during her first season interviewed Norma Kamali, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford and Michael Kors.

With punk as the focus of the Met's annual Costume Institute installation,PUNK: Chaos to Couture examines the growth of punk from its 1970s origins to its influence in modern fashion. The exhibition, which features designers such as Christopher Kane, Rei Kawakubo, Karl Lagerfeld, Helmut Lang, Gianni Versace and Vivienne Westwood, includes nearly 100 designs for men and women ranging from original punk garments to recent designs that use punk elements: paillettes replaced by safety pins and feathers by razor blades. The clothes in the exhibition are accompanied by period music videos from iconic punk bands including the Ramones, Sex Pistols and The Clash. For more information, visitmetmuseum.org.

Spectacle: The Music Video
April 3–June 16
Spectacle: The Music Video is the first museum exhibition to celebrate the art and history of the music video. From early examples of music in film to the work of music video masters such as David Bowie and Madonna and contemporary artists such as The White Stripes and Kanye West, the exhibition reveals the enormous influence music videos have had on contemporary culture over the past 35 years.
Through over 300 videos, artifacts, and interactive installations, the exhibition shows the changing landscape of the music video, highlighting its place at the forefront of creative technology, and its role in pushing the boundaries of creative production. Spectacle explores the trajectory of the music video from precursors through to the present day across a range of musical genres, and showcases the innovative work of contemporary directors such as Michel Gondry, Floria Sigismondi, and Chris Milk. Original props and artifacts from iconic music videos such as A-ha’s groundbreaking “Take On Me” and OK Go’s “This Too Shall Pass” are presented alongside interactive experiences featuring works by Radiohead and Björk.
In conjunction with the exhibition, the Museum will present a range of related public programs, including screenings, hands-on workshops, and exclusive special events with personal appearances by music video directors and musicians.
Spectacle: The Music Video is organized by the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati and curated by Jonathan Wells and Meg Grey Wells of Flux. Exhibition design by Logan. The exhibition at Museum of the Moving Image is presented in partnership with Sonos and VEVO. Additional support is provided by Adobe and SOL REPUBLIC.
