Brand creation and brand renewal are the heart and soul of every business – especially the beauty business. What are the secrets of a successful launch? How can a brand be refreshed so that it gains new followers without losing its base? Are there new markets for mature brands?
This one-day forum for top-level retailers and brand executives dives deep to answer these questions and more while also providing an opportunity to participate in targeted networking.
May 17, 2011 // The Asia Society and Museum, New York City

The trade show IBS came up several times. I wanted to post the below press release to give everyone further insight into what IBS really brings to the beauty industry. IBS is one of the largest beauty trade shows in the U.S., therefore as a beauty professional, it is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the organization and try to attend next year.

International Beauty Show New York was Off the Hook this Year
More than 57,200 beauty professionals in attendance; up from previous year
NEW YORK, NY—March 24, 2011—The International Beauty Show New York, presented by American Salon magazine was packed to capacity and drew more than 57,000 passionate and energetic professionals looking to advance their skills, see the latest and greatest in beauty and mingle with some of the top talent in the industry. IBS New York, once again, proved that the beauty industry is vibrant and strong.
Energy Abounds
"We are beyond thrilled”, says Dana Lupton, vice president/group show director, Questex Media Group, LLC. “We have continued on an upward trend with our overall event and once again, our solid attendance led to empty shelves in many exhibitor booths and one of the busiest rebooking sessions for our 2012 event. "The response to this year’s IBS New York Show from both the exhibitor and attendee communities has been astounding. We feel our pivotal purpose is to connect our exhibitors with their customers and provide key educational opportunities. We were thrilled to see such a positive result and know that the energy and commerce generated on both the IBS New York and IECSC show floors represents a promising future for our events, and the industry as a whole."
The Exhibits
"IBS New York was off the hook this year! Sales were extraordinarily better than last year. I can't thank show management enough for their support and continued efforts for better future shows. Keep up the great job. We’ll be there every year", said Greg Salo, president, YOUNG NAILS. Beauty professionals came to the show in droves and spent their time and money learning about new products and trends, as well as, visiting and shopped with old favorites. The Pibbs family was well represented on the show floor with large displays from Pibbs, Turbo Power, Parlux and La Brasiliana. Amongst many others; Alfa Parf, Clairol Professional, Wella Color Charm, Moroccanoil, Brazilian Blowout, So Cap USA, Dashing Diva, Farouk Systems, Enzo Milano, Takara Belmont, American International Industries, Brazilian Keratin by Marcia Teixeira, GKhair, Keratin Complex, Alter Ego and Arrojo also had significant presence on the show floor.
Traffic was plentiful as professionals frequently stopped in aisles where smaller exhibitors demonstrated their products and fulfilled a high level of sales. As Tonie Shin, vice president, marketing for NYX LOS ANGELES, shared, "We broke a new sales record! Yay! Thanks so much for everything."
In all, more than 565 haircare, nailcare, cosmetics, tools, furniture, apparel and business technology manufacturers were represented.
Trends & More
Extensions are still all the rage and offer professionals an opportunity to increase business and generate thousands of dollars in incremental revenue. This year, the show saw sparkly bling-type strands and feathers from companies like Bling Strands, Hair Flairs, Hairfeathers.com and Pluhme. Also popular and crowd-generating were the moisture-enhancing hair follicle products, natural hair-straightening products and the colorful hybrid gels and polishes.
Breathtaking Main Stage Performances
Some of the most vibrant educators in the beauty biz graced the 2011 legendary IBS New York Main Stage. Dramatic and fantasy styling, creative coloring and high-energy performances were provided by world-renowned and iconic artists, including Nick Arrojo, Ted Gibson, Martin Parsons, Danny LaPointe and Anita Gutierrez, Woody and Amy Michleb, Richard Ashforth, and Derek J, Janel Smith, J Rok, Fingaz and Tsunami of Hair Battle.

Kelly Kovack (Co-Founder/CEO, Purpose-Built)
Mary J. Palmieri (Beauty Blogger & Wellness Business Development Executive, United Business Media / HBA Global)

The professionals dived deep in conversation, helping attendees to understand the more technical angle of the beauty industry -- an aspect often times overlooked. As beauty professionals, it is important that we not only understand how a product functions and why we love a product, but the process in which it was created and the steps that lead to its market success. These ideas were the premise of last night's conversation. We learned FAB info, indeed!
