Career Advice: STOP Telling All of Your Professional Business!

Snippet: Don't tell everyone everything!
Just some advice for all of you blabbing to your friends, co-workers and anyone that will listen about your career dreams, goals, drama and thoughts - this article is for YOU! When you have too many people all up in the mix of your should-be private affairs, you can easily be influenced to do, say and believe things that are not in line with who you are and what you want. I say this to simply mean, be selective in who you tell what to! In order to make effective decisions that will help you to achieve your highest potential and attain mental piece, you have to realize everyone's space in your life and treat them accordingly. Everyone you are surrounded by does not deserve to know about your professional life. As working professionals, we have to be mindful of the people we keep in our circle - whether its friends, co-workers, family, mentors, peers or haters. You have to analyze everyone's motives, strengths and character and decide if you are able to talk to them offline about your issues.

During the course of our career, we are going to experience some great highlights, as well as some challenging times and not everyone can know the details.

FAB can't interview everyone you surround yourself with and give you definitive answers on if this person has your best interest at heart, but we can provide you with some tips that will be helpful in determining how to build a professional network of people that genuinely want you to be both, professional and personally fulfilled. They'll not only support you, they will help to guide you and be the listening ear that you need.

In your professional realm, you should categorize who you surround yourself with . . .

*Gives great career advice.
*Wouldn't really use their advice, but great listener.
*Gives great career advice AND they're a great listener.
*They support you no matter what.
*Great to chit chat at work, but wouldn't tell a secret to0.
*Love to taking lunch breaks together and thats it!
*You share similar career paths, great to bounce ideas off of.
*Knowledgeable, always has some good career tips.
*You can mention little surface issues but wouldn't tell a top secret to.
*This person keeps it real whether you like it or not.
*This person is everything you need: good listener, gives great advice and sets a great example.
*Makes you laugh, that's it.
*You can totally ask for a favor!

There are tons more buckets you can put your peers into, but the bottom line is that you can have fruitful relationships without any problems as long as you understand everyone's role in your professional career and treat them accordingly. Everyone doesn't have to know everything! And they shouldn't!

Who are you talking to and are you sure you can trust them? Are you sure they're qualified to give you advice? Are they setting a great example for you to follow?

Time to consider these questions, my FABulous FAB readers!!!
