The First Ralph Green- “Going for Gold” Event this is a one-day event with two parts. The Meet & Greet is being held at Boys & Girls High School followed by “Going for Gold” Event, Friday February 19, 2010. We are currently in the final stages of planning the details of the day and we are looking for volunteers who are interested in joining our staff.
Brooklyn’s own Ralph Green, ranked 3rd in the country in downhill skiing, will be back home on February 19th to meet and greet the city’s youth before he heads off to Vancouver for the Paralympics, the skier announced today. The community and media are invited to attend and hear his inspiring story, ask questions and take pictures with the two times Paralympian. In addition, Green will be honored at a “Going for the Gold” party also on February 19th at The Brooklyn Masonic Temple, 317 Clermont Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205 from 10pm-3am.
Green has served as an inspiration to people across the country for more than a decade. In the fall of 1992, Green was shot on the streets of Brooklyn and sustained an injury that took his left leg. Previously, he was great quarterback and had been known to dunk a basketball without much effort. After the shooting, he turned to skiing and changed his life forever.
The Meet & Greet begins at 10:30am and ends at 2pm. “Going for Gold” event begin at 10pm and ends at 3am. We are looking for people to fill different shifts for the day. On February 18th we may also need a few volunteers for venue set up.
There are a number of volunteer opportunities available. Some requirements are as followed:
- Male or Female age 18 and over
- An interest in either event planning, youth outreach or public relations
Volunteer opportunities will be filled on a fist come first served basis. All submissions need to be submitted no later than Thursday February 11th for consideration.
